The Assistant Park Ranger will assist the Park Ranger and Police Department with all operations involving the Lake Ponca recreational area and other City parks and recreation facilities. This position is part-time and involves various responsibilities related to park safety, law enforcement, and community service.

  • Be accountable for all monies received at Lake Ponca for permits, campground reservations, etc.
  • Patrol Lake Ponca and enforce state and federal laws and City ordinances.
  • Patrol and examine Lake Ponca recreational area to detect suspicious conditions and handle situations accordingly.
  • Report safety hazards.
  • Issue citations to violators of traffic laws.
  • Visit the scene of crimes and accidents; search for and preserve evidence; investigate and interview victims; make oral and written reports; provide testimony in court.
  • Enforce water safety.
  • Maintain existing buoys.
  • Prepare written reports as needed.
  • Supervise community service workers.
  • Inspect Lake Lots and Public Docks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Parks and Recreation.
  • High school Diploma or GED required.
  • One year of Security Guard and/or Law enforcement experience.
  • Knowledge and ability in record keeping and report writing.
  • Ability to enforce water safety and safe recreational activities.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have a valid First Aid and C.P.R. certificate.
  • Must possess a Licensed Armed Security Guard Certification or obtain within 6 months.
