About The Position

Under the direction of the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park & Historic Site (LBJ SP & HS) Complex Park Superintendent, this position performs complex (journey-level) assistant park/historic site management work. Responsible for the effective management, safety and security of LBJ SP & HS. Responsible for assistance and/or coordination in such areas as: Law Enforcement, Maintenance, Revenue collection, Resource management, Interpretation/Education and Administration. Provides leadership to park staff, volunteers and others to successfully manage and conserve the park's natural and cultural resources for present and future use. Serves as Park Manager in his/her absence. This position is also responsible for the interpretation of a typical German farm family at the turn of the century (1915-1918) in an authentic living history farm setting (Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm), management and maintenance of a swimming pool complex, operation of a large Texas State Park Store, management of park herd and wildlife enclosures, and responsible for effective public relations with established park partners and /or constituents. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of experience in (1) natural/cultural resource management; or (2) interpretation or education; or (3) general maintenance; or (4) public safety; or (5) promotions or public relations or marketing.
  • NOTE: Experience may have occurred concurrently.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid state driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Park Administration, Recreation and Parks, Wildlife/Fisheries Science, Natural and/or Cultural Resource Management, Forestry, Biology, Anthropology, Archeology, History or closely related field.
  • Experience as a park manager, supervisor or team leader.
  • Experience in revenue or budget management.
