The Assistant Paraeducator works under the direct supervision of a certified classroom teacher, providing instruction in basic academic skills to students. This role involves performing tasks as identified by the Kansas State Department of Education, the Wichita Public Schools, and the curriculum established at the site. The paraeducator assists students individually or in groups with lesson assignments to reinforce learning concepts, ensures a safe and healthful environment for students and staff, and directs activities designed to reinforce concepts for individuals or small groups. Additionally, the paraeducator works with teachers to modify activities to meet individual student needs, assists in collecting data and maintaining records regarding student performance, and helps maintain learning centers and instructional materials. The position requires acquiring a minimum of 20 in-service hours annually, with a reduced requirement of 10 hours after three years of service.
