About The Position

The University of Maryland School of Dentistry invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position Assistant or Associate Professor in the Division of Operative Dentistry & Cariology, Department of Comprehensive Dentistry. Requirements

  • DDS/DMD degree or foreign equivalent.
  • Eligibility for dental licensure in the State of Maryland.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Strong communication skills, diplomacy, adaptability, and motivation.
  • Organizational skills and a collaborative mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Operative dentistry residency, master's, or Ph.D. degrees in a related content area.
  • Strong record of publications and scientific accomplishment.
  • Dental educational research experience.
  • Evidence of excellent university-level teaching and significant publications.
  • Understanding of initial considerations for restoration of single-tooth edentulism via implant dentistry.
  • Clinical experience with digital dentistry applications and workflow to include intraoral image acquisition and CAD/CAM of single-tooth restorations.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute significantly to both preclinical and clinical instruction in Operative Dentistry.
  • Dedicate approximately 60-80% of the role to teaching.
  • Serve as course director and instructor for one or more core or elective courses, including course development and student mentoring.
  • Support student learning, development, and decision-making to promote academic success and well-being.
  • Collaborate with faculty to enhance teaching strategies and improve student outcomes.
  • Participate in scholarly activities within and beyond the department.
  • Engage in departmental, school, and university committees, meetings, and community service.
  • Maintain a professional development plan that includes research or other scholarly pursuits.
  • Conduct or contribute to dental research initiatives.
  • Supervise undergraduate or graduate student research projects as needed.
  • Demonstrate innovation in curriculum development and/or continuing education.
  • Contribute to the professional community through peer review, grant panels, and participation in national/international conferences.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills, with a clear commitment to teaching and scholarship.
  • Respond to assignments from the Chair of Comprehensive Dentistry and the Dean of the School of Dentistry to support departmental and school operations.
  • Demonstrate teamwork in planning, problem-solving, and decision-making.
