About The Position

The School of Integrated Sciences, Sustainability and Public Health (ISP) in the College of Health, Science and Technology (CHST) at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) seeks to recruit a tenure-track faculty at the assistant or associate level with broad expertise in physical chemistry. The position will begin on August 16, 2026. The selected candidate will receive a competitive salary and access to the UIS Centralized Equipment Facility and labs to facilitate their research. The ISP is an integrated school encompassing biology, chemistry, environmental studies/sciences, and public health and candidates with teaching and research experience and interests in these areas will be given priority. This is a full-time on-campus position tenure-track academic appointment. UIS tenure-system faculty are expected to be available and engaged in the university community, with assigned professional responsibilities for teaching, scholarship, and service.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related field.
  • Experience and qualifications commensurate with the rank of assistant or associate professor.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research mentorship of students, as well as community and professional engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching courses (lecture and lab) in Physical Chemistry, as well as courses in the candidate's areas of expertise or interest, with the priority of supporting the molecular science degree tracks (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, etc).
  • Teach Physical Chemistry I, Physical Chemistry II, and Physical Chemistry Lab, undergraduate research, or courses in candidate's areas of expertise that would attract other majors in ISP, and when appropriate, to contribute to the offering of General Chemistry, General Chemistry for Health Professions, or Computational Chemistry and Molecular Simulations.
  • Continue research in her/his specialization and direct student research.
  • Pursue external research funding.
  • Collaborate with other ISP faculty and serve on undergraduate and graduate research committees.
  • Create new laboratory modules in Physical Chemistry.
  • Provide course\-based undergraduate research experience.
  • Help maintain the ACS program certification.
  • Engage in service at all levels from program to the profession.
