About The Position

The LSU College of Agriculture is seeking to fill a tenure-track assistant/associate professor position in the Department of Textiles, Apparel Design, and Merchandising (TAM). The individual will hold 95% appointment with LSU State University A&M (College of Agriculture.) and 5% appointment with LSU Ag Center. 65% Teaching: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses that may include but are not limited to draping, collection development, Optitex Pattern Software, Adobe Creative Suites, Clo-3D, Digital Textile Design and Computerized Knitting systems. 35% Research: Develop research in areas of Textiles, Apparel Design & Merchandising with an emphasis in apparel design technology in the apparel industry. Develop an independent and collaborative research program related to their field, acquire external funding for scholarship with the expectation that they will disseminate their research findings as well as participate in juried exhibitions. 5% Service: Contribute to advising and recruitment of both undergraduate and graduate students. Professional involvement in community; membership in appropriate professional and/or academic organizations; ability to develop industry partnerships. FERPA -As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality. Additional Information: This position is considered a research or research-related support position and must undergo screenings per RS 17:1826.

Requirements

  • Earned PhD in Textile, Apparel Design & Merchandising or related area.
  • Established college-level teaching record as graduate student, instructor or above
  • Demonstrated record of scholarship, participation in juried exhibitions, and ability to obtain external funding
  • Evidence of teaching excellence, graduate and undergraduate level advising, and service consistent with appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Earned PhD in Textile, Apparel Design & Merchandising or related area.
  • For consideration at the Associate Professor rank, 3 years of service preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of courses within the Textile, Apparel Design and Merchandising curriculum (e.g., draping, fashion illustration, collection development, research methods)
  • Proficiency with current industry software and technologies (such as Adobe Creative Suite, Optitex, Computerized knitting systems [Shima Seiki] and Clo-3D)
  • Industry experience
  • Professional involvement in community
  • Membership in appropriate professional and/or academic organizations
  • Ability to develop industry partnerships.
