The Department of Speech Pathology at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applicants for a 9-month tenure-track position in speech-language pathology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level commencing August 2026. The successful candidate will have a PhD or an EdD in Speech-Language Pathology or related fields - ex. Psychology, Linguistic Sciences. The ideal candidate should have scholarly expertise in child and adolescent language disorders and one or more of the following areas: literacy, bilingualism, developmental disabilities, speech sound disorders, phonology, disorders of rhythm, or complex communication is preferred. The ideal candidate(s) will demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and research with undergraduate and graduate students; a record of research related activities (e.g., scholarly presentations, research publications, grant writing); and dedication to providing training and services relating to culturally and linguistically diverse populations. The candidate will demonstrate the ability to provide clinical supervision and support to HBCU undergraduate and graduate students through academic advising as well as mentorship. The university is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and who have demonstrated a commitment to improving access to higher education, enhancing equity, and social justice. The Department of Speech Pathology offers an undergraduate major and minor in Speech Pathology and Audiology and a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology. The master's program in Speech-Language Pathology at Xavier University of Louisiana is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. In the department of Speech Pathology, undergraduate seniors have the opportunity to enroll in two semesters of clinical practica, and graduate students enroll in clinical practica each semester of enrollment. Xavier encourages cross-disciplinary collaborations with faculty from various areas, including pharmacy, physician assistant, genetic counseling, counseling, public health, education and psychology. Founded in 1925 by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, Xavier University of Louisiana is the only Catholic Historically Black College and University (HBCU). Located in New Orleans, the ultimate purpose of the University is to contribute to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society. Xavier University of Louisiana's current enrollment is 3,419. Of these, 2,693 are undergraduates and 205 are graduate students enrolled in Masters and Doctoral programs in the College of Arts and Sciences. In addition, there are 518 students enrolled in the College of Pharmacy, which offers the Master of Health Science in Physician Assistant Studies, the Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the Doctor of Pharmacy. Xavier's student body is 80% African American, with approximately 37% from Louisiana, primarily from the New Orleans area. The balance comes from 42 other states, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, and several countries.
