About The Position

Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential, liberal arts transfer institution that focuses on preparing students for transfer to highly ranked colleges and universities. The College is a hidden gem located outside the Tri-Cities region-and its rural setting featuring 750+ acres of wetlands, bucolic forest, and the state's oldest and largest pecan grove. Richard Bland College is currently seeking exceptional Mathematics professors to serve in permanent, non-tenure track, full-time positions (with option for renewal based upon performance and college policy) for the Fall 2026 semester. The primary role of these positions are to provide college-level instruction and academic-related activities designed to encourage, support, and enable student success. In addition to teaching mathematics at all levels and supporting the development of stronger interdisciplinary ties with other departments, duties include student advising and committee service under our shared governance structure as part of the Department of Natural Science and Mathematics at the College. Reporting to the Chair of Natural Science and Mathematics, these faculty members will be an integral part of our academic community, whose major responsibilities include:

Requirements

  • A Master of Science degree (or higher) in mathematics from a regionally accredited college or university; or a M.S. degree in a closely-related field (such as computer science) with at least 18 graduate credit hours in mathematics.
  • Extensive knowledge of the subject area(s) of instruction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of effective communication and instruction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and challenges of first- and second-year college students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative style.

Nice To Haves

  • An earned doctorate in mathematics.
  • Ability to teach courses in programming and/or data science.
  • Experience as a college faculty member.
  • Extensive background and experience in implementing innovative education delivery techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching mathematics courses in accordance with college and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Preparing and submitting timely grade reports and other reports on student performance, as required.
  • Organizing class activities and assignments, relating them to the overall learning outcomes of the courses.
  • Providing input and working with other faculty and staff to review, produce, and/or select course-related materials
  • Enthusiastic commitment to the Richard Bland College mission, vision, and strategic plan.
