About The Position

The Department of Aviation and Technology at San José State University is pleased to announce a search for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Computer Network System Management (CNSM) Concentration. The incumbent will be required to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses primarily related to software quality management, mobile technology, edge computing, and courses in the General Networks area, including introduction to networks, network administration, Internet of things, cloud computing, and database management. The incumbent is also expected to carry out sponsored research and projects involving students. The Department of Aviation and Technology is the oldest department in the College of Engineering. The Department is the fastest growing department in the college attracting students at both freshman and transfer levels. The Department has an enrollment of over 900 students in its programs and has a strong relationship with local industry through continuous support of its Industry Advisory Boards. The Department has had a long-standing internship program as part of its curriculum to allow students to gain industry experience while industry evaluates such students as long-term potential employees. Our full-time faculty are all active researchers and are successful in attracting major funding from industry. The BS degree program in Aviation has four options: 1) Professional Flight, 2) Airline Operations, 3) Aviation Management, and 4) Maintenance Management. Our Aviation Program is ranked #1 on the West Coast of the US and is ranked #4 nationally. The BS degree in Technology has two concentrations: 1) Computer Network System Management (CNSM) and 2) Manufacturing Systems. The Computer Network System Management prepares students to meet the demand by industry in recruiting graduates with knowledge, skills, and experience in Computer Network Systems. This concentration utilizes the most advanced computer network equipment laboratory sponsored by industry. Students of CNSM enjoy internship opportunities at many local high-tech industries, including Cisco, Juniper Network, Palo Alto Network, NASA Ames Research Center, and Lockheed-Martin. The Manufacturing Systems prepares students with modern tools related to Smart Manufacturing, Industry 4.0, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and data analytics in Advance Factory Operation and Modern Manufacturing Ecosystem. Our students in BS and MS technology programs are engaged in academic research with faculty, or work on projects with industries. Requirements

  • A Doctorate degree in an engineering or technology related field such as electrical, electronics, computer, networking, software, etc.
  • To be considered for Associate Professor level, a candidate needs to have a substantial record of scholarly publications, research awards, and more than six years of academic and/or professional experience after the doctorate degree.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and working with a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to curricular innovation to complement and further advance the program.
  • Experience in laboratory development that enhances the quality of education and research.
  • Development of externally funded research programs and laboratory capabilities.
  • Publications of research work in peer-reviewed research journals and professional conferences.
  • Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population.

Responsibilities

  • Developing all necessary course materials.
  • Teaching the assigned classes in accordance with standard SJSU practices.
  • Grading course assignments, examinations and project reports.
  • Enforcing academic policies in the assigned courses, such as academic integrity violations and reporting these to the appropriate authorities.
  • Coordinating the activities of teaching assistants/graders who may have been assigned to the courses.
  • Posting the final grades in a timely manner at the end of the semester.
  • Contributing to the regular assessment and continuous improvement of teaching effectiveness at both course and program levels.
  • Maintaining a student-centric approach at all times, thus contributing to the development of students as productive, responsible, and caring citizens of the world.
  • Maintaining an active research lab that provides research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Participating in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
  • Organizing all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Demonstrating awareness and experience in understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
