About The Position

The Department of Foundational Biomedical Sciences at Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine invites applications for two full-time faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, one open position with expertise in Pathology, and the second open position with expertise in Microbiology, or both. These faculty will contribute to an integrated, systems-based medical curriculum for osteopathic medical students (COM) and postbaccalaureate students in the Master of Science in Medical Health Sciences (MSMHS) program. We seek individuals with a strong commitment to innovative, learner-centered medical education, scholarly excellence, and collaborative departmental service. Successful candidates will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver foundational content that supports clinical reasoning and evidence-based patient care.

Requirements

  • D., D.O., M.D., Pharm.D., or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant biomedical science field (e.g., microbiology, pathology, infectious disease, immunology, or pathophysiology).
  • Demonstrated excellence or promise in teaching in medical or graduate biomedical science education.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity or potential for scholarly contributions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-teaching environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience in a medical school setting or graduate health sciences program.
  • Prior teaching experience in microbiology, or pathology, or related disciplines.
  • Ability to lead and develop courses.
  • Familiarity with NBOME/COMLEX or USMLE-style exam formats and curricular blueprints.
  • Experience using educational technologies (e.g., Canvas, ExamSoft, Lecture recording platforms).
  • Interest in implementing and developing active learning methodologies.
  • Interest in contributing to educational scholarship or interdisciplinary research.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver didactic lectures and/or active learning sessions in pathology and/or microbiology within preclinical courses of an integrated curriculum.
  • Participate in team-teaching and case-based learning sessions aligned with clinical correlates.
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and evaluation of student assessments (NBOME-style).
  • Provide academic advising and mentoring to COM and MSMHS students.
  • Support student learning through scheduled office hours and feedback sessions.
  • Assist with programmatic curriculum review, mapping, and accreditation documentation.
  • Maintain scholarly activity through educational research, biomedical research, and dissemination of scholarship through publication in peer-reviewed journals and other formats.
  • Collaborate on research initiatives and pursue intramural or extramural funding, as applicable.
  • Interest in medical education scholarship or contribute to interdisciplinary research, especially in areas of microbiology or pathophysiology.
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • Participate in faculty development, student recruitment, admissions interviews, and other institutional service.
  • Contribute to educational innovations, student engagement, and community outreach aligned with the TUC mission.
