About The Position

As an Assistant Operator, you will assist the operator in the safe operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant. This role includes conducting water treatment control tests and calculations to ensure potable water meets system demands, serving as a replacement for the operator during vacations or absences, and handling chemicals and performing maintenance tasks. You will read and interpret charts, gauges, graphs, and SCADA devices used in water treatment operations, maintain and repair mechanical and electrical equipment, and conduct inspection trips to pumping and treatment facilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Knowledge of the operation of motors, pumps, switchgear, screens, and chemical feed equipment.
  • Excellent math, basic hydraulics, and technical skills.
  • Ability to distinguish colors.
  • Background in maintenance, repair, and installation of mechanical, electrical, and related equipment.
  • Experience in water treatment plant or related field preferred.
  • Must take and pass the appropriate state certification examination for Class A Water License within 24 months.
  • Required to possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

  • Continuing education as needed for Operator certification renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the operator in conducting water treatment control tests and calculations.
  • Serve as a replacement for the operator during vacations, illness, or other absences.
  • Unload and handle chemicals, set manual chemical adjustments, and perform maintenance and cleaning tasks.
  • Read and interpret charts, gauges, graphs, and SCADA devices used in water treatment operations.
  • Maintain, repair, and install mechanical and electrical equipment including pumps, motors, switchgear, storage tanks, compressors, intake screens, and chemical feed systems.
  • Collaborate with maintenance personnel for equipment repair and installation as needed.
  • Conduct inspection trips to pumping and treatment facilities, report plant conditions, and make necessary corrections.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
