GENERAL SUMMARY: The Assistant Nurse Manager manages resources and delegates as appropriate to optimize achievement of unit scope and department objectives. Assists in the operations management of the unit. Promotes retention of staff through recognition and promotion of teamwork within and across shifts. Supports and encourages the professional development of nursing staff. Assures optimal patient care standards through daily interaction and role modeling. Supports and facilitates a collaborative relationship between medical staff and hospital staff. The Assistant Nurse Manager supervises Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and/or other support staff in the delivery of patient care as described in Nebraska Statute 38. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS: In addition to the principal job functions contained on the primary job descriptions, the following duties are also required in the department noted above. 1. Ensures efficient patient flow of patients from admission to dismissal; collaborates with Administrative Managers, Care Management and support departments as appropriate. 2. Ensures that departmental protocols and hospital procedures are initiated appropriately; monitors appropriate compliance for high risk procedures. 3. Supports and role models effective communication to physicians, departmental staff and other departments and/or agencies; identifies medical staff needs for assistance and patient information. 4. Participates in department procedure development and implementation; offers procedural input and provides support to staff during the implementation process. 5. Makes rounds on patients throughout the shift to increase customer satisfaction and identify service recovery opportunities; investigates incidents and feedback issues with staff and assists in resolving any concerns with patient/family. 6. Maintains familiarity with regulations and standards affecting the department (insurance authorization, EMTALA, Joint Commission) and intervenes to prevent potential violations. 7. Participates in and supports department quality assurance processes to improve patient care (Oryx, Patient Safety). 8. Acts as a financial steward of human and material resources (hours of care, staff breaks, supply use); maintains staff productivity during down times. 9. Assists in identifying and addressing staff development and clinical competency needs.
