About The Position

The Assistant Nurse Manager at Emory Healthcare plays a crucial role in supervising and coordinating the activities of nursing personnel across one or more patient care units. This position is responsible for ensuring that patients' needs are met and evaluating the nursing care and performance within the unit. The Assistant Nurse Manager actively participates in the planning of work for assigned units and coordinates activities with other patient care units and related departments. This role involves planning and organizing training for unit staff members and participating in guidance and educational programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of the nursing team. In addition to supervisory responsibilities, the Assistant Nurse Manager is involved in the hiring process and is accountable for the development, evaluation, and ongoing management of assigned direct reports. The role requires providing professional nursing care in adherence to Emory Healthcare guidelines and protocols during bedside assignments. The Assistant Nurse Manager embodies the Care Transformation Model, fostering an environment of trust, fairness, consistency, and confidentiality among team members and with both internal and external customers. This includes engaging in intentional rounding to listen to patient and staff concerns, completing rounding logs, and using findings to develop solutions to identified issues. The Assistant Nurse Manager is also responsible for ensuring the consistent practice of bedside reporting and conducting monthly audits. They share knowledge with others within the workgroup and represent the needs and interests of direct reports to all levels of the leadership structure. Effective communication, both orally and in writing, is essential to support the delivery of quality patient care and to hold staff accountable to established patient care and regulatory standards. The role involves interpreting policies and procedures to nursing staff and patients/families, making clinical assignment changes based on patient care needs and staff competencies, and promoting a safe, therapeutic, and customer-friendly environment. The Assistant Nurse Manager responds promptly to concerns from patients, families, and staff, seeking resolution and providing feedback to the patient care team. They demonstrate clinical knowledge to coach staff on daily activities and pursue continuous learning to enhance their expertise in clinical specialties. Collaboration with healthcare team members and ancillary departments is vital to monitor and achieve quality patient outcomes, and the Assistant Nurse Manager supports evidence-based changes to clinical practice in pursuit of these outcomes. They also manage resources effectively to achieve safe, cost-effective, and clinically appropriate patient care, while participating in departmental and interdepartmental committees to address unit and system problems.
