Akron General's new 13-bed Level II Progressive Care Unit will allow caregivers to be able to provide a new, higher level of intermediate care to our patients. The patient population in this unit will consist of non-invasive BIPAP, continuous pulse ox monitoring, insulin and cardiac/vasoactive GTTs, chronic trach ventilators, acute stroke patients, subarachnoid spinal drains, transvenous pacers and arterial waveform monitoring. The Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU), on the other hand, is a high acuity 10-bed unit that cares for post-intervention stroke patients, neurological trauma, and other neuroscience critical care patients. As an Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) in both the PCU and NSICU, you will have direct oversight of the day-to-day operations of the units. You will also act as a resource for new caregivers, round with the patients to help improve their experience and perform service recovery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
  • RN license in the state of Ohio
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS through American Red Cross upon hire or within first year of employment
  • Two years of recent clinical nurse experience
  • Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills (oral, written, interpersonal, analytical and organization)

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of neuro ICU experience

Responsibilities

  • Interview, hire and train staff; provide input into performance evaluations and provide feedback.
  • Make personnel action recommendations (e.g., promotions, transfers, disciplinary, discharge).
  • Provide direction and support to the unit staff and supervises admissions, conducts assessment of patient's needs, and initiates nursing care plans.
  • Evaluate and document patient progress.
  • Facilitate the planning, implementation, development, and evaluation of nursing programs, initiative and objective for the unit.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services in a unit.
  • Serve as a liaison between the manager, staff and other areas within the organization.
  • Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in a unit.
  • Prepare schedule of work assignments assuring adequate coverage.
  • Participate in and supports quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives.
  • Participate in departments and committees as assigned.
  • Assist with providing continuing education and in-service educational programs for caregivers.
