General Summary Under general direction, assumes a supervisory role for assigned UMMS Operating Room team members and responsibility for daily operations of the team. Serves as a resource for questions and problem solving as appropriate. Identifies areas of improvement, cost savings and works with staff to facilitate the necessary changes. II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified. Oversees and is responsible for the assigned Operating Room (General, Cardiac, Trauma) team members to include performance appraisals, mentoring, and coaching. Provides overall supervision, training and evaluation in accordance with system and departmental policies and procedures. Interviews and recommends hiring of staff. Conducts annual performance evaluations of assigned staff, recommends disciplinary measures and implements when directed. Serves as a staff resource. Promotes professional development of staff. Ensures policies and procedures are understood and followed. Acts as a liaison with nursing, quality management, applicable hospital departments and other related services or committees. Actively participates in and leads discussion of purchasing needs, quality results and patient feedback, problem solving and development to improve quality of care and service as assigned. Follows up and supports efforts of colleagues to implement improvement action plans. Takes a proactive approach to addressing potential problems with patient management specific to perioperative services. Collaborates with leadership on long- and short-term planning. Facilitates change within department/unit to meet organizational goals. Creates, implement, and/or lead performance improvement projects.
