Cleveland Clinic’s H60 Neuroscience Unit is a specialized unit that oversees multiple neurology conditions, such as stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, brain and spine tumors, Parkinson’s Disease, epilepsy, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, Myasthenia Gravis, degenerative brain diseases and spinal disorders., and provides caregivers with a lot of versatility and exposure. Nurses on this unit become stroke-certified, receive comprehensive stroke education and float to orthopaedic, general surgery and oncology units six months after hire. A caregiver in this position works nights/7pm-7am/40hrs per week/3-12's, and 4 hours from home.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (Certification must be presented upon hire)
  • Two years of recent clinical nurse experience
  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among unit staff and other departments and units regarding issues related to patient care.
  • Ensure continuity of patient care information between shifts, coordinate patient admitting, discharges, transfers and other operational issues.
  • Review major operational patient care issues with Nurse Managers.
  • Provide ongoing clinical evaluations of nurses and other direct and indirect patient care providers.
  • Counsel employees on performance issues, administer initial corrective actions and collaborate in monitoring attendance issues.
  • Alert Nurse Manager of significant clinical or other performance issues.
  • Participate in interviewing, selecting and appraising the performance of employees.
  • Monitor the adherence to EEO/AAP goals and guidelines.
  • Administer Nursing Institute, departmental and CC policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and participate in the daily delivery of patient care on assigned unit/area.
  • Prepare schedule of work assignments, assuring adequate coverage on all shifts.
  • Participate in and support quality improvement projects, outcome studies and research initiatives.
  • Participate in department groups and committees as assigned.
  • Assist in orienting new personnel, continuing education and in-service educational programs.
