In the 26-bed 6400 Behavioral Health Unit at Akron General, caregivers progressively involve patients in their care plans, allowing them to work toward an increased self-responsibility and independence. Through medication and various therapies, they learn to rebuild their ability to fulfill daily living activities and cope with challenges. As Assistant Nurse Manager, you will support the nurse manager by providing clinical supervision and unit coordination. This position offers a great way to gain extensive leadership experience while continuing to provide the best support and treatment possible. A caregiver in this position works days 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with on-call requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
  • RN license in the state of Ohio
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Two years of recent clinical nurse experience
  • Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills (oral, written, interpersonal, analytical and organization)

Responsibilities

  • Interview, hire and train staff; provide input into performance evaluations and provide feedback.
  • Make personnel action recommendations (e.g., promotions, transfers, disciplinary, discharge).
  • Provide direction and support to the unit staff and supervises admissions, conducts assessment of patient's needs, and initiates nursing care plans.
  • Evaluate and document patient progress.
  • Facilitate the planning, implementation, development and evaluation of nursing programs, initiative and objective for the unit.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services in a unit.
  • Serve as a liaison between the manager, staff and other areas within the organization.
  • Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in a unit.
  • Prepare schedule of work assignments assuring adequate coverage.
  • Participate in and supports quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives.
  • Participate in departments and committees as assigned.
  • Assist with providing continuing education and in-service educational programs for caregivers.
