Lutheran Hospital’s 6D Geriatric Psych Unit specializes in the unique care of patients ages 55 and older. This team is dedicated to helping patients achieve healthier and more productive lives through evaluation, treatment and stabilization. As an Assistant Nurse Manager on this team, you will assist fellow RNs, physicians and medical staff in providing the best possible healthcare experience. Your work will mainly focus on evaluating patient condition, improving unit policies, managing caregiver schedules and welcoming new nurses to the team. A caregiver in this position will work Day/Evening consisting of 2 8-hour shifts from 3:00PM – 11:30PM and 2 12 hour shifts 7:00AM - 7:30PM

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Two years of recent clinical nursing experience
  • Behavioral Health experience

Responsibilities

  • Support the Nurse Manager with supervising and supporting RNs and other nursing support caregivers.
  • Supervise admissions, conduct assessment of patient's needs and initiate nursing care plans.
  • Evaluate and document patient progress.
  • Facilitate the planning, implementation, development, and evaluation of nursing programs, initiatives and objectives for the unit.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services in a unit.
  • Serve as a liaison between the manager, caregivers and other areas within the organization.
  • Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in a unit.
  • Prepare schedule of work assignments assuring adequate coverage.
  • Participate in and support quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives.
  • Assist in orienting new caregivers.
  • Participate in continuing education and in-service educational programs.
