About The Position

Bay Area Christian School seeks a collaborative, flexible, and student-centered Assistant Music Director to support our Choir and Orchestra programs. This position is ideal for a well-rounded musician and educator who enjoys working with students in a variety of musical settings and is eager to support a thriving Fine Arts department within a Christian educational environment. The Assistant Music Director will work closely with the Choir and Orchestra Directors to provide instructional support, organizational assistance, and performance preparation across multiple grade levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Degree in Music, Music Education, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • General music background with experience in vocal and/or instrumental music
  • Ability to read music and support ensemble instruction
  • Ability to support student learning across a variety of musical settings
  • Basic piano skills sufficient to play parts, lead warm-ups, or assist in rehearsals
  • Experience with teaching string instruments (lower strings preferred)
  • Comfortable teaching or assisting with elementary and middle school general music classes
  • Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills
  • A positive, flexible, and teachable attitude
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students

  • Must be able to regularly remain stationary and move around the classroom, lecturing and monitoring students
  • Must be able to regularly remain stationary at the computer, requiring repetitive finger movements and manual dexterity
  • Must possess the ability to observe details at close range required for viewing a computer monitor, preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, and reading
  • Must possess the ability to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction; possess the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make discriminations in sound
  • Must possess the ability to express ideas using the spoken word to convey instructions to students, parents, and other stakeholders accurately, loudly, and/or quickly
  • Activities occur inside and outside, and the worker is subject to both environmental conditions

Responsibilities

  • Instructional Support Assist with 7th-12th grade Choir and Orchestra classes as needed
  • Provide small-group instruction (sectionals) for vocal and instrumental students
  • Work with individual students for skill development, rehearsal support, or enrichment as needed
  • Support 5th and 6th-grade general music classes
  • Assist students in preparing solo and ensemble repertoire
  • Help plan and support lessons under the direction of lead instructors
  • Participate in parent conferences when appropriate
  • Classroom & Program Support Assist with maintaining classroom records, including assignments and grades in RenWeb
  • Communicate professionally with parents and administration via email
  • Assist with organizing, cataloging, and maintaining the music library and instructional materials
  • Auditions & Student Assessment Assist with scheduling and organizing vocal and instrumental audition or review days
  • Support assessment of new and returning students
  • Help guide students in repertoire selection and preparation
  • Performances & Events Assist with preparation for concerts, chapel performances, and seasonal programs
  • Support student preparation for Concert Contests and Solo/Ensemble events
  • Attend and assist at performances, competitions, and off-campus events as needed
  • Special Events & Program Activities Assist with the coordination of concerts, special events, and end-of-year trips
  • Provide logistical and on-site support for Fine Arts activities
