About The Position

Baird is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Assistant Municipal Underwriter to join our Municipal Underwriting Desk. This role supports all aspects of institutional municipal underwriting, including primary negotiated and competitive offerings, and assists with the operational and administrative functions essential to the desk’s daily activity. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with Baird’s Fixed Income Institutional Sales team, Public Finance Department, and external market participants to ensure seamless execution of municipal bond transactions. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about the fixed income markets, eager to learn, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented on-site environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Licensing: SIE, Series 7, 52, and 63 (or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook); familiarity with Bloomberg preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines while maintaining composure and accuracy.
• Positive, proactive attitude with strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to teamwork and client service.
• Willingness to work extended hours as needed to support deal execution and ensure a seamless underwriting process.

Responsibilities

• Support new issue execution by assisting Municipal Underwriters with competitive bid computations, pricing materials, and distribution of relevant offering documentation.
• Coordinate communications between Baird’s Institutional Underwriting desk, Institutional Sales & Trading teams, and external municipal bond dealers.
• Provide operational and administrative support for both negotiated and competitive transactions, including recordkeeping, trade ticketing, and settlement processes.
• Ensure regulatory compliance by collaborating with Baird’s Compliance team and adhering to established firm policies and industry standards.
• Facilitate communication between the Underwriting desk and Baird’s Public Finance Department throughout the new issue process, from pre-marketing to post-sale settlement.
• Perform additional duties and projects assigned to support the success of the Municipal Underwriting team.
