About The Position

A nonprofit founded in 1969 in Charlotte, North Carolina, we have grown to become one of the largest providers of comprehensive substance use disorder treatment in western North Carolina. From initial assessment through long-term recovery support, McLeod Centers provides compassionate, ethical, and high-quality care to individuals and families impacted by substance use and mental health disorders. We are looking for strong clinical leaders to join our team. McLeod Centers for Wellbeing is currently seeking a Full-time Assistant Medical Director to support our Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in addiction medicine, with a focus on medication-assisted treatment (MAT) preferred.
  • Valid and unrestricted North Carolina medical license.
  • Active DEA license for prescribing controlled substances.
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team supervision capabilities.
  • Ability to manage complex or emotionally sensitive situations with professionalism and composure.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and patient-centered care.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Board Certification in Addiction Medicine (ABPM or ABAM) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Medical Director to oversee clinical operations of the MAT program, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and accreditation standards.
  • Provide direct supervision and clinical leadership to physicians, nurse practitioners (NPs), physician assistants (PAs), and nursing staff.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based policies and procedures to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
  • Collaborate with executive and administrative leadership on strategic planning, growth initiatives, and program development.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Oversee and adjust medication-assisted treatment protocols, including methadone and buprenorphine (Subutex) dosing.
  • Provide direct patient care as needed, including physical examinations, medication management, and withdrawal stabilization.
  • Ensure clinical documentation is timely, accurate, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Implement and monitor quality assurance initiatives to maintain the highest standards of care.
  • Review clinical data and performance metrics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in internal reviews, audits, and regulatory inspections.
  • Work closely with counseling, case management, and administrative teams to ensure coordinated, whole-person care.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with community healthcare providers and external organizations.
