What’s on Your Plate: Partners with Meat Manager to manage department and staff, including financial stewardship, customer service, department conditions, merchandising, food safety, work safety, communication, hiring, training and performance management. This is a management position, and is responsible for providing leadership in line with company values and promoting a positive and progressive work environment in alignment with our company mission, vision values and policies.

Requirements

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail or grocery experience required.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience required.
  • Entry to mid-level proficiency with MS Office. Working knowledge with POS, inventory or other retail specific software preferred.
  • Skills to manage financial results, including labor, sales and profit margin.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Basic to intermediate math and computation skills required.
  • Skills to read, understand and follow through on verbal and written instructions. Skills to exercise good judgment at all times. Skills to resolve conflicts and analyze a variety of situations to find a solution.
  • Should have the ability to speak, read and understand English.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of retail Meat and Seafood departments preferred, however butcher shop or meat fabrication industry experience acceptable.
  • Prior meat cutting / fabrication experience highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Engages the customer in a friendly manner, shares product information and assists in locating product throughout the store. Seeks opportunities to exceed customer expectations and enhance the customer experience.

  • Observes all company rules and policies. Understands and complies with specific department or location guidelines, tasks and responsibilities.
  • Partners with department manager to manage and provide oversight to all areas of the department. Assesses, prioritizes and delegates tasks and production.
  • Ensures consistency of department conditions. Ensures all areas of department are stocked, rotated, faced and adhere to merchandising standards and category schematics.
  • Partners with department manager to ensure satisfactory in-stock conditions in department. Maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals.
  • Orders meat products according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs. Trains staff to write orders and production schedules consistent with department goals and standards to ensure the highest level of product availability.
  • Ensures all Meat and Seafood items are cut, trimmed and processed to company standards.
  • Builds displays and arranges department products to make attractive presentations, highlighting featured/unique/seasonal items.
  • Partners with department manager to plan for weekly ads, events and holidays using tools and reports.
  • Maintains professional vendor relationships.
  • Coordinates with Promotions department to plan and conduct in-store tastings.
  • Ensures customer special orders are accurately placed and delivered.
  • Receives and unloads merchandise; checks quality, count and condition. Communicates any issues to management and merchandising team.
  • Stocks and rotates products with attention to product quality and expiration dates.
  • Maintains the organization, rotation and cleanliness of back stock areas.
  • Wraps, weighs and prices Meat and Seafood products according to department policy.
  • Assists customers with product selection. Shares product knowledge with customers. Makes recommendations and suggestions based on customer needs.
  • Ensures department compliance with company organic standards.
  • Partners with department manager to plan, lead and analyze the monthly perishable inventory.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of labor, sales and margin goals and factors that influence them. Works with department manager to meet labor and margin goals and schedule department accordingly. Develops and executes a plan when results do not meet expectations.
  • Coaches department to maintain appropriate, accurate and organized inventory and back stock. Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of department equipment and is able to train staff and troubleshoot errors as needed.
  • Leverages resources and labor to maximize efficiency, without compromising quality and service standards.
  • Balances administrative tasks with presence on floor.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
