About The Position

The Assistant Meat Manager supports the Meat Manager in overseeing daily operations of the meat department to ensure high standards of product quality, customer service, food safety, and profitability. This role assists with leadership of department staff, execution of merchandising plans, inventory control, and compliance with company policies while helping maintain a safe, efficient, and customer‑focused department. Pay Transparency: Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range. Dependent on length of service, hours worked, any applicable collective bargaining agreement and/or Company policy, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay, PTO/Vacation pay, paid holidays, bereavement pay and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401(k) eligibility).  Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis.   For roles in Washington State: Sick pay and PTO/Vacation pay are accrued based on hours worked and paid holidays are issued at 7-9 days annually.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a meat department or food retail environment
  • Knowledge of meat cuts, preparation techniques, and food safety practices
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods

Nice To Haves

  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience
  • Familiarity with inventory management and ordering systems
  • Food safety certification (or ability to obtain)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing daily meat department operations, including cutting, grinding, wrapping, stocking, and display of fresh and frozen meat products
  • Ensure all meat products meet company quality, freshness, and presentation standards
  • Support proper rotation, dating, trimming, and shrink control procedures
  • Ensure department equipment is operated and maintained safely and correctly
  • Provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service and respond promptly to customer questions or concerns
  • Assist customers with product selection, special cuts, and preparation recommendations
  • Support a department culture focused on service, cleanliness, and professionalism
  • Assist in supervising, training, and coaching department associates
  • Help assign daily tasks and ensure productivity standards are met
  • Support onboarding and skill development for new associates
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and adherence to company standards
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and stocking product to meet sales demands
  • Monitor inventory levels to reduce out‑of‑stocks and excessive shrink
  • Help execute department merchandising plans, pricing accuracy, and signage standards
  • Support sales growth through proper display execution and feature preparation
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations
  • Follow company SOPs related to food handling, temperature control, and cleaning schedules
  • Assist with audits and corrective actions as needed
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe department at all times
  • Assist the Meat Manager with scheduling, labor control, and operational reports
  • Help track sales, shrink, and department performance metrics
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support department and store goals
