About The Position

As the Assistant Meat Manager, you are the key partner to the Meat Manager in driving the success of one of our store's most essential departments. You will combine technical skill with leadership to provide our guests with the highest quality cuts and expert product knowledge. This is a role for a self-motivated leader who takes pride in craftsmanship and department integrity.

Requirements

  • Skilled Communicators: Individuals who can multitask while consistently modeling Piggly Wiggly's vision and high ethical standards.
  • Physical Strength & Skill: Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and handle professional cutlery and machinery with delicacy and care.
  • Integrity-Driven: A high level of honesty and respect when dealing with department products, vendors, and team members.
  • Previous experience in a meat department or butchery setting is a plus, but a strong desire to learn and contribute is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Education: Actively engage with guests to provide expert advice on meat selections, preparation, and Piggly Wiggly's premium products.
  • Operational Partnership: Work closely with the Meat Manager to maintain inventory, oversee stocking, and ensure the department meets daily goals.
  • Team Leadership: Support the management of up to 10 employees. You will share responsibility for creating schedules and conducting yearly performance evaluations.
  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to health and food safety regulations. You will lead the charge in keeping the department clean, safe, and compliant.
  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrate precision and safety when operating hazardous equipment, including butcher knives, slicers, and heated wrapping stations.
