About The Position

The primary function of an Assistant Store Manager is to support the Store Manager in overseeing daily operations and to develop the skills necessary to become an effective Store Manager. The Assistant Store Manager helps ensure all store activities align with company goals, customer service expectations, and operational standards. General Purpose: To assist the Store Manager in all aspects of the store’s daily operations, learning the management skills and responsibilities required for promotion to a Store Manager position.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic math and computer operation skills are essential.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret basic business-related reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and direct others effectively.
  • Ability to identify performance gaps, coach employees, and problem-solve effectively.
  • Must demonstrate emotional control and treat all employees with respect and fairness.
  • A strong willingness to learn all aspects of store operations with the ultimate goal of becoming an effective Store Manager.
  • The position requires standing or walking for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be physically capable of performing all store tasks, including those that may require heavy lifting or movement of stock.
  • Most tasks will be performed indoors, but some tasks will be outside or in temperature-controlled rooms within the store.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all store managerial duties in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Communicate and enforce customer service standards and expectations to all store personnel.
  • Take responsibility for opening and closing the store, ensuring proper procedures are followed.
  • Assist in the handling of the accounting aspects of daily operations, including cash management and balancing.
  • Support the Store Manager in hiring, training, and disciplining store employees as needed.
  • Assist in the ordering of merchandise and managing inventory control to ensure the store is adequately stocked.
  • Ensure store cleanliness standards are met and maintained throughout the day.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and with high standards.
  • Help with the development of store promotions and merchandising strategies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by upper management.
