About The Position

James River Insurance is seeking a dedicated individual to lead and direct an assigned underwriting team. The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving individual and team objectives aligned with the division's goals for profitability, production, service, quality, and compliance. Requirements

  • 6+ years industry experience, preferably in Surplus Lines.
  • Specific experience in marketing and underwriting of division-related products.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Professional designation is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide input and execute annual business plans for the team and individual underwriters to produce profitable business.
  • Manage assigned underwriting staff, including monitoring performance goals, training, mentoring, and completing annual evaluations.
  • Assist in the hiring process of new staff.
  • Establish Underwriting Authority for team underwriters in coordination with management.
  • Coordinate marketing travel schedules for the team with the Underwriting Manager.
  • Stay informed about changes at the underwriting team level and suggest actions to management.
  • Maintain equitable and productive brokerage assignments within the team.
  • Identify issues impacting team/division goals and work with the Underwriting Manager to resolve them.
  • Monitor rate levels to ensure compliance with division pricing objectives.
  • Provide input on Underwriting and Pricing Guides as appropriate.
  • Act as the first point of referral for accounts outside individual underwriter authority.
