About The Position

The Assistant Manager of Government & Community Outreach plays a crucial role in coordinating and implementing outreach programs for the Georgia Ports Authority. This position involves monitoring legislation, developing position statements, and serving as a liaison between the Authority and community stakeholders. The role supports strategic planning efforts and promotes a safe work environment while upholding the values of the Authority.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years experience working with transportation systems, governmental affairs or public relations at the local, state, or federal level.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels as well as members of the shipping industry and the general public.
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills required.
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively to achieve objectives.
  • Good organizing skills and ability to effectively overcome frequent interruptions.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Relations, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Drafts and helps coordinate the Authority's legislative program.
  • Identifies, monitors, and reports on legislative issues impacting the Authority at local and state levels.
  • Coordinates the development of community and statewide outreach initiatives.
  • Attends and participates in committee hearings, public hearings, and briefings on proposed legislation or local ordinances, as needed or directed.
  • Regularly collects and distributes industry and policy-relevant news to Authority staff.
  • Prepares position statements, correspondence, and testimony in connection with legislative issues and local policies affecting the Authority.
  • Maintains ongoing contact and builds cooperative relationships with elected officials, administrative staff, public agencies, and community organizations relevant to the Authority's interests.
  • Conducts periodic briefings for senior staff and Authority members regarding legislative and community matters.
  • Performs research necessary to develop background on particular legislation or legislative initiatives.
  • Conducts tours and briefings for legislators, legislative aides, civic leaders and the public.
  • Participates in departmental activities as directed.
