About The Position

Assists in managing the complete day-to-day linehaul operation. Oversees the timely and cost efficient movement of trailers throughout the greater FedEx network. Ensures the linehaul operation is operating to optimize safety and quality measures. Essential Functions Management responsibilities include, but are not limited to: hiring, terminations, coaching, skills development, recognition and rewards, performance management and staff productivity. Plans, organizes, staffs, directs and controls the assigned operations through the transportation management teams; develops and implements policies and programs as necessary. Monitors and evaluates operational performance and takes corrective action when necessary. Develops and manages the department budget; ensures compliance and addresses variances and other budget concerns. Adheres to budget requirements and contributes to district, region, and company-wide goals achievement. Adjusts budget resource allocation and usage as needed to maximize efficiency resources. Analyzes productivity and cost impacts of daily operations and implements changes as needed (e.g., improved routing, relief plans, service enhancements, contingency plans). Ensures the regulatory and legal operation of equipment while working with Transportation Service Providers to provide a safe operation for the motoring public. Leads forums and Business Review Meetings to present information regarding business concerns to Transportation Service Providers. Develops strategic plans to accommodate various changes in linehaul operations, such as peak planning, new facility additions, regulatory/compliance changes, etc. Manages a system of controls to ensure that service levels and linehaul performance goals are met. Assists with department audits, Control Self Monitoring (CSM), dispatching and other audit processes. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Three (3) years’ required in direct management of employees and their performance, operational or military leadership experience.
  • A combination of above listed experience
  • Transportation management experience preferred
  • Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications.
  • Verbal and written communication skills necessary to explain complex and/or confidential information
  • Presentation skills necessary to facilitate training and/or deliver informational sessions to groups and/or individuals.
  • Time management and organizational skills necessary to manage multiple projects, appropriately prioritize workload, plan for resources to meet deadlines and goals, and respond to day-to-day functional needs.
  • Ability to anticipate and identify problems and use sound judgment and fact-based analysis to develop effective and efficient solutions.
  • Ability to inspire a shared vision and empower and motivate a team.
  • Ability to mentor, coach and act as a knowledge resource to other employees.
  • Thorough understanding of concepts, practices, policies and procedures related to FedEx FedEx field operations, linehaul, and contractor relations.
