We are seeking an experienced Back-of-House Deli Assistant Manager to be responsible for the day-to-day operations of our Deli department. The Assistant Manager will set the tone for the department regarding the highest Food Safety and quality standards, and unwavering world-class customer service. They must possess effective communication skills and impart their knowledge toward the development of their team members.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Assist Deli Manager with training, monitoring, coaching and managing all aspects of the back-of-house Deli.
Provide consistently positive customer engagement and communication.
Assist in upholding and enforcing high levels of food safety standards and practices.
Obtain a 95% or better score on all our EcoSure audits.
Assist in the planning for forecasted sales and build labor needs into the schedule, making daily evaluations of department needs for the day.
Model respectful communication with front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH) regarding production needs in a timely manner.
Assist in ensuring the preparation of assigned foods are according to the approved recipes and are made in an efficient manner.
Assist in ensuring waste reduction and shrink by following pars, executing samples, and completing the daily shrink reporting while ensuring its accuracy.
Assist in assigning and checking accurate completion for packaging, dating & labeling products in correct containers.
Assist in coaching and training staff in a variety of different tasks and procedures as often as possible.
Assist in monitoring the cleanliness of assigned stations throughout the day as needed for food safety and ensuring the floors are free from debris.
Assist in assigning and filling in on the sales floor to ensure we are 100% in-stock using proper food rotation standards.
Safely and effectively use small and large kitchen equipment including ovens, stove, tilt skillet, immersion blenders, food processors, mixers and other kitchen equipment.
Ability to order products according to vendor schedules and deadlines. Ensure proper rotation practices are being followed.
Communicate daily via Microsoft Teams and email including coaching opportunities, daily notes, or other important notes.
Assist Department Manager with oversight of timecards, shrink, documentation, scheduling and daily huddles.
Assist in meeting all Sales, Labor, Shrink and Margin goals and metrics as outlined by the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
Qualifications and Skills:
Strong working knowledge of all food safety practices, and ability to uphold high standards.
Vast understanding of cooking terminology and allergens; and ability to execute recipes to Co-op standard.
Strong knife skills, and an emphasis on safety.
Ability to follow directions both verbal and written, read recipes and understand cooking measurements.
Possess leadership courage to hold team accountable for our high standards, and overall performance.
Demonstrates quality and accurate communication skills that are clear, concise and constructive.
Ability to problem solve within our protocols and guidelines to satisfy our customers.
Demonstrates flexibility toward changing priorities with the ability to stay focused, remain calm and accomplish goals while multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work with in a team-oriented environment toward a common goal encouraging each other toward success.
Knowledge of Microsoft office suite, Outlook, Excel, & Power Point.
Able to work a variety of shifts with the flexibility to work early in the morning, evenings and weekends.
Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when shift begins.
Ability to consistently be at work and on time.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED
1+ years of leadership experience
Experience in the service industry encouraged but not required.
Culinary School or similar programs encouraged, but not required.
Serv-safe Certifications-Manager preferred.
Physical Demands:
Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a grocery setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight, up to 50lbs; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Working Environment:
Work is performed primarily in a grocery store setting with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions.
