About The Position

The Assistant Airport Security Manager (ASM) at Newark International Airport is responsible for overseeing the efficient operation of the Airport Security Unit, ensuring compliance with TSA regulations, and managing security services and systems. This role requires a high level of trust and involves handling confidential security information. The ASM also serves as the primary contact for TSA and leads security exercises and assessments to maintain airport safety.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Aviation Management, or a related field.
  • Three years of contract administration and monitoring contractor performance.
  • Ability to pass a criminal history records check and obtain an Airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience managing and administering a budget.
  • Three or more years of aviation security experience at a supervisory level.
  • Knowledge of Transportation Security Administration Security Regulations 49 CFR 1540, 1542, and 1544.
  • Familiarity with Port Authority Air Terminal Rules and Regulations regarding security.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and identify problems with long-term solutions.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the ASM in overseeing the Airport Security Unit, including the Security Credentialing Office and contract management of security services.
  • Monitor and inspect cargo handling areas and activities for security compliance.
  • Prepare and manage TSA mandated security exercises and drills in conjunction with the PA Police Department.
  • Lead periodic threat, vulnerability, and risk assessments and develop risk mitigation measures.
  • Assist in preparing and managing the Airport Security Unit budget and monitor security expenditures.
  • Coordinate with central office staff regarding PA policies and airport initiatives.
  • Prepare responses and execute corrective measures for audits by PA Audits and/or TSA.
  • Serve as a liaison with airport tenants and TSA regarding security policies and procedures.
  • Review Tenant Security Programs and enforce compliance with TSA regulations.
  • Develop relationships with TSA, Customs and Border Patrol, and other agencies for effective security operations.
  • Participate in security industry calls and lead PA security meetings.
  • Review intelligence information and disseminate to key airport employees.
  • Assist in airport emergency assignments and may require rotating shifts and on-call work.
  • Maintain Operational Performance Reports, Metrics, and Standard Operating Procedures for the security unit.
  • Coordinate with other PA airports to ensure regulatory compliance.
