The Assistant Lighting Designer at Arizona Opera will support the lighting designer for the mainstage production of La Bohème and assist in remounting the production in Tucson. This role involves drafting light plots, developing schedules, and collaborating with various production staff. The position offers opportunities to design additional programs and receive credit as the lighting designer for those projects. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, flexible, and a team player, contributing to the operational efficiency of the lighting department.

  • Assist the lighting designer for the mainstage production of La Bohème.
  • Draft and edit light plots, schedules, hang charts, and focus charts.
  • Support the transfer of the show to Tucson, including all necessary documentation.
  • Attend all onstage rehearsals and performances in Phoenix and Tucson.
  • Call follow spot cues and assist in directing follow spots in collaboration with the Stage Manager.
  • Design additional programs and receive credit as the lighting designer for those projects.
  • Completion of a Theatre Design Program or relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
  • Experience with lighting systems, including automated fixtures and ETC EOS consoles.
  • Understanding of lighting design principles and experience with drafting programs like VectorWorks.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Previous experience at an Opera or large performing arts company.
  • Higher-level competency with computer systems and willingness to learn new things.
  • Experience with LightWright.
