Assistant Library Director The Kaukauna Public Library is seeking an Assistant Library Director to help manage the library’s daily operations, direct programming, and help manage library collections. The Assistant Director acts as the direct supervisor of the library in the absence of the Director. The position works a standard workweek of 37.5 hours and is also expected to participate in various meetings and work-related functions outside of the standard workweek. What You Will Do: Assists in recommending and preparing policies and procedures for the library. Acting in their capacity in the Director’s absence. Supervising and training library support staff working in the library. Preparing annual budget. Overseeing budget lines for programming, collections, and marketing. Acts as one of the library’s public representatives to other community institutions and individuals who work with the public. Oversees library programming by developing programs for all ages. Developing outreach opportunities to public and private schools and other community organizations. Coordinating library marketing. Oversees library’s material collections by developing subject areas in the library. Overseeing material selection. Prepares monthly reports to the Library Board on effectiveness of library services and programs. Provides assistance to patrons in all aspects of public service. Performs other related work as assigned by the Library Director and performs service desk duties when necessary. What You Will Bring: (Knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to do the job well) Master of Library Science from an American Library Association Accredited Institution A minimum of five years of professional librarian experience Ideal Candidate will have: Strong understanding of public library principles, operations, and services. Ability to direct, supervise, and evaluate the work of others. Strong oral and written communication skills to lead teams and interact with the public. Ability to foster collaboration, resolve conflicts, and maintain a positive work environment. Excellent time management, prioritization, and the ability to handle multiple tasks and demands effectively. Skill in using computer software, managing electronic resources, and troubleshooting technical problems. Ten (10) hours of continuing education annually to maintain professional development. Physical Requirements/Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment is generally indoors with a quiet to moderate noise level.
