About The Position

The Utah State University Libraries seeks a collaborative, innovative, and user-centered candidate for the position of Research Support Librarian for Data Services to join a team supporting faculty, students, and researchers in discovering, creating, and sharing knowledge. The Research Support Librarian supports data literacy across the institution and provides expertise and guidance for managing, preserving, and sharing research data, delivering timely education and outreach services relevant to the evolving research ecosystem. We view open research, including open data, as a vital component of USU’s land -and space-grant mission and the university’s continued success as a Carnegie R1 Research Institution . This position plays a critical role in supporting researchers by promoting open, ethical, and rigorous practices across disciplines. Working with a team of librarians, the Research Support Librarian engages with students and faculty to support emerging open knowledge and scholarly communication initiatives in all fields. Collaborating with library colleagues and groups across campus, including the Office of Research, this position helps develop strategic initiatives and partnerships by conducting outreach and providing education on topics such as open science and researcher identity and impact. Additionally, the Research Support Librarian engages with students and faculty, including consultations and instruction, as a member of a broad, disciplinary liaison team. Reporting to the Head of Research Strategy and Innovation, the position is a 12-month, tenure-track faculty appointment. Support and mentorship are built into the tenure process. The estimated start date for the position is Summer 2026. Early-career librarians are encouraged to apply; professional development and training will be supported based on the needs of the successful candidate. Review will begin on February 26th, 2026 and continue until the position is filled. Salary is minimum of $60,000, plus excellent benefits including a 14.2% (starting at $7,810) annual retirement contribution. • ALA-accredited MLS, or international equivalent, by August 2026.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with colleagues in the library and across USU to develop robust, sustainable, and targeted research tools and programs for all faculty, students, and staff.
• Develop the expertise needed to support initiatives in the areas of data literacy, data management, and data sharing.
• Provide instruction, support, and expertise on tools and workflows for data management, preservation, and sharing with an emphasis on open and reproducible. practices that enhance engagement in every stage of the research lifecycle.
• Maintain awareness of emerging trends, tools, and resources related to research support.
• Develop strong, collaborative relationships across USU to foster a deep understanding of research needs of faculty, students, and staff through consultations, projects, and outreach.
• Provide research support through consultations and instruction as part of a liaison team.
