The Assistant Lead Custodian at Fargo Public Schools is responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the district's buildings and grounds. This full-time position requires a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. The role involves a variety of tasks that ensure the facilities are well-kept and operational. The Assistant Lead Custodian will work closely with colleagues, supervisors, and students, fostering a collaborative atmosphere while performing essential custodial duties. Key responsibilities include vacuuming, shampooing, sweeping, mopping, waxing, polishing, and scrubbing floor surfaces to maintain cleanliness. The custodian will also be responsible for cleaning and dusting furnishings, washing windows and mirrors, and sanitizing restrooms, showers, and locker rooms. It is crucial to keep cleaning equipment in proper operating condition and to regularly clean chalkboards and whiteboards. The role also involves collecting trash, moving furniture and equipment as necessary, and setting up or tearing down for special events. Seasonal tasks such as shoveling snow and applying sand or ice-melting materials to steps and sidewalks are also part of the job. The Assistant Lead Custodian will report any items in need of repair, ensure that exterior doors are locked according to building schedules, and maintain security by ensuring all doors and windows are secure and lights and equipment are turned off. Additional responsibilities include raising and lowering flags at prescribed times and keeping the grounds free of trash, mowing lawns, and trimming trees as directed. The position may require substituting for other district employees when needed and participating in all mandatory training or training appropriate to the position as required by the district.
