About The Position

In this role, the Assistant Lab Technician will be an integral part of the Analytical Chemistry team who support all R&D projects and production teams at ATC and our Partners. Your primary tasks will be supporting electrode production QC, sample preparation for microscopy, and conducting standard test methods to characterize materials. Support operational tasks to meet project requirements including, but not limited to, sample cut up, polishing, and imaging, mounting and prep of microscopy specimens, accountability for department inventory, and execution/reporting of analytical testing. Troubleshoot & perform preventative and unplanned maintenance on all process equipment. Prepare and test samples using laboratory analytical equipment consisting of LECO, chemical analysis, density measurements, dimensional measurements, and others. Must be able to prioritize safety while working with laboratory hazards including radiation sources, acids and bases, and human/environmental toxins. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively. Due to continuous operations, the employee may be required to provide technical support outside traditional work hours. Verifies daily that samples are being documented that the proper analyses are being completed for each sample and that data reports are being properly updated. Keeping track of inventory and placing orders Will support Analytical and project team personnels’ initiatives to ensure on time delivery. Gain knowledge about Alcoa EHS standards, protocols, and tools to ensure that safety protocols are being followed accordingly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or college degree in scientific discipline.
  • Ability to perform material handling, weighing, completing process steps in sequence, and documenting process data.
  • Must have strong attention to detail and follow complex work plans/instructions to maintain workflow and quality integrity.
  • Wear task specific PPE.
  • Comfortable working in a relatively noisy environment.
  • Must be able to lift >50 lb.
  • Flexible with schedule changes.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in a lab, manufacturing or industrial environment, preferred.
