About The Position

The Information Graphics Designer is a member of Pew Research Center's digital team. Designers create eye-catching visuals that communicate the Center’s findings across a range of editorial offerings. They use data visualization, interactivity, illustration, animation and photography to help the Center’s research travel farther. This position reports to the associate director of design and production.

Requirements

  • 0-3 years of experience in digital publishing/journalism
  • Proven ability to design charts that demonstrate visualization best practices
  • Demonstrated understanding of graphic design fundamentals (e.g., scale, color, hierarchy, typography, layering, grouping, composition)
  • Basic data literacy/numeracy
  • Proficiency with Adobe CS, Microsoft Excel, Figma and project management platforms
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues across the Center
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Eagerness to receive constructive feedback from non-design stakeholders, and formulate alternatives
  • Ability to work independently on multiple assignments
  • Interest in the Center’s research areas or methods

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated specializations, including motion graphics/animation, illustration, etc., a plus

Responsibilities

  • Design statistical charts using industry standard and in-house tools
  • Provide visual expertise and advice to Center researchers
  • Source and edit photos and illustrations
  • Design digital features and interactives
  • Develop engaging social media visuals (social first as well as adaptations)
  • Prepare polished presentations for virtual and in-person events
  • Produce all work to the highest standards of accuracy and presentation
  • Adhere to Center styles and workflows
  • Maintain an audience-centric mindset
