About The Position

An Assistant Golf Course Superintendent supports the Golf Superintendent in maintaining high-quality playing conditions, supervising grounds staff, managing daily operations like mowing, irrigating, fertilizing, and pest control, and ensuring compliance with regulations, often stepping in as the acting Superintendent when needed. Key duties include staff training, equipment maintenance, record-keeping for applications, course setup for events, and managing turf health for greens, fairways, and bunkers under Bass Pro Shops – Hospitality division.

Requirements

  • Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum of one to three years of experience in golf course operations and maintenance, often with some prior supervisory experience.
  • Valid Driver’s license and good driving record required.
  • Have or obtain Missouri pesticide applicator license (within 90 days of hire) required.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and self-motivation.
  • Passion for turfgrass and golf course maintenance.
  • Ability to work in a team and follow safety protocols.
  • Good communication skills for reporting and team interaction.
  • Knowledge of irrigation controls and computer software systems.
  • Ability to operate basic landscape equipment.
  • Must be highly organized and have sound time management.
  • Ability to work with accuracy and utilize effective judgment under the pressure of time sensitive deadlines.
  • Regularly walks, sits, stands and lifts up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally does computer work.

Nice To Haves

  • Membership in the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Help to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly maintenance facility.
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent and assistant with scheduling and implementing agronomic plan.
  • Support training of golf grounds staff in proper procedures for all maintenance activities and be involved with all course tasks and activities.
  • Communicate all necessary information to pro shop team, mechanics, and other resort personnel as it pertains to golf maintenance operations.
  • Remain heavily involved in the spray program and other applications on the property.
  • Ensure adequate inventory of chemical and fertilizer needs.
  • Assist staff and serve as their lead on project activities on the course.
  • Schedule irrigation systems operation and assist in trouble shooting any irregularities.
  • Operate primary turf equipment and heavy equipment as needed for projects.
  • Proposes improvement ideas to enhance work environment, operations, efficiency, and/or streamline work processes to the Superintendent and Assistants.
  • Report unsafe conditions and situations that warrant attention to a member of the golf course leadership team immediately or as soon as is practical.
  • Attend seminars on related professional training and development.
  • All other duties as assigned.
