About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Assistant Heavy Equipment Mechanic with a solid background in maintaining and repairing heavy machinery. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience, a good understanding of various heavy equipment mechanical, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. This role involves Maintaining heavy equipment to ensure operational efficiency and safety.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in repairing heavy equipment (2 years preferred).
  • Some knowledge and at least 1 year(s) of experience in:
  • Welding (all types) and fabrication
  • Electrical systems (AC/DC)
  • Machine hydraulics and function
  • Some light diesel engine repair
  • Some Powertrain/Transmission/Brake repair
  • Some Climate control/AC repair
  • Computer and Windows operating environment
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment for maintenance purposes.
  • Some proficiency in troubleshooting all phases of mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Proven ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe workplace.
  • Strong team player with the ability to communicate effectively with management and operators.
  • Proficient in working safely, with the authority to stop work if safety conditions are not met.
  • Provide some basic hand tools; the company will supply all other necessary and troubleshooting tools.
  • Position requires adherence to safety regulations and company policies.
  • Willingness to undergo hands on supervised training.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background screening and drug testing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment; Cat Scrapers, Komatsu dump trucks, Volvo trucks, and other equipment powertrains, transmissions, and brakes.
  • Adhere to and maintain the company's equipment Preventive Maintenance (PM) program:
  • Oil and filter changes on all heavy equipment
  • Oil sampling on all heavy equipment
  • Changing wheels and tires on our Volvo trucks
  • Assisting our Chief Mechanic in all of his activities
  • Some light welding and fabrication tasks, as needed to repair or modify equipment.
  • Some knowledge of repairing electrical systems, both AC and DC.
  • Operation of heavy equipment for maintenance and diagnostic purposes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with management and operators to ensure equipment is maintained to high standards.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed and have the authority to halt operations if safety cannot be assured.
  • Utilize computer and Windows operating systems for diagnostic and repair tasks.
