About The Position

The Assistant Groundskeeper at Atlanta United F.C. plays a crucial role in maintaining the grounds of the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground. This position supports the Head Groundskeeper in ensuring the upkeep of multiple practice fields and the surrounding landscape, contributing to the overall quality and presentation of the training facility. The role requires a proactive approach, strong work ethic, and effective communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders, including coaches and maintenance teams.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience with upkeep of natural grass and artificial fields.
• Preferred 3 years of professional sports field maintenance experience.
• Preferred 2 years of experience working with a 2-wire irrigation system.
• Valid driver's license and forklift certification required.
• Ability to obtain Georgia Commercial Pesticide Applicator License upon hire.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of MLS rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing maintenance and repair of turf for all practice fields, including mowing, edging, fertilizing, aerating, top-dressing, over-seeding, re-sodding, line striping, and weed control.
• Implement an effective turf grass fertility, fungicide, and pest control program.
• Maintain the irrigation system throughout the complex.
• Collaborate with the academy manager and coaches on field usage.
• Oversee the upkeep of the entire complex in addition to the fields.
• Hire, manage, and train summer interns.
• Assume Head Groundskeeper duties during their absence.
• Use, maintain, service, and repair assigned power equipment and hand tools.
• Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of Atlanta International field.
• Proactively anticipate and address issues related to grounds maintenance.
• Assist in creating efficiencies and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Partner with the maintenance team to ensure a collaborative facilities department.
• Coordinate grounds maintenance for locations used for team and special events as needed.
• Remove litter and refuse from grounds, attend safety meetings, and assist with inventory control.
