Responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a strong emphasis on fast, friendly service.
  • Assist customers by making product suggestions and offering helpful recommendations.
  • Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, in‑store intercom announcements, and one‑on‑one interactions.
  • Answer incoming calls professionally; resolve customer complaints or escalate to the Store Director as needed.
  • Responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director.
  • Assist in planning daily operations and monitoring production processes to ensure compliance, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Store Director responsibilities for operational continuity.
  • Monitor employee productivity and performance throughout the shift.
  • May schedule employees to ensure proper coverage and service levels.
  • Possess a full understanding of duties performed by department employees, including Opening/Closing, Dairy, and Frozen procedures.
  • Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees as needed.
  • Train employees in store policies, sales processes, and record‑keeping procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to department standards, expectations, and operational requirements.
  • Build Grocery displays, rotate stock, and discard outdated or spoiled product.
  • Ensure merchandising areas, shelves, and workspaces are clean, organized, and properly maintained.
  • Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays; assist with coordinating grocery sales promotions.
  • Ensure merchandise is correctly priced, clearly labeled, and attractively displayed.
  • Prepare sales and inventory reports; participate in physical inventory every 6 months.
  • Maintain inventory levels per division directives to ensure product quantity, quality, and freshness.
  • Stock and rotate product; maintain organized coolers, freezers, and backroom areas.
  • Assist with ordering Grocery products and maintaining division‑directed inventory levels.
  • Supervise reclamation processing and ensure orderly, in‑stock conditions throughout the department.
  • Control shrink and manage costs through proper handling, rotation, dating, and inventory practices.
  • Ensure proper code‑dating procedures for all products in the department.
  • Implement correct product handling and preparation techniques.
  • Operate equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines.
  • Ensure compliance with sanitation, safety, and operational standards.
  • Maintain knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
  • Uphold department and company requirements for safety, cleanliness, and code‑date compliance.
