About The Position

The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing daily operations of the Grocery department to ensure strong sales performance, high merchandising standards, and excellent customer service. This role assists with inventory management, labor execution, associate supervision, and compliance with company policies while helping maintain a clean, safe, and well‑stocked store environment.

Requirements

  • Grocery retail experience, preferably in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Strong organizational, merchandising, and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to lead by example and work effectively with a team.
  • Good communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and stand for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Assistant Grocery Manager or Lead Clerk experience.
  • Experience with ordering systems, inventory control, and planogram execution.
  • Knowledge of grocery operations, shrink control, and sales performance metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Grocery Manager in daily department operations, including stocking, rotation, ordering, and merchandising.
  • Help ensure shelves are properly stocked, faced, signed, and priced accurately.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards throughout the department.
  • Assist with opening, closing, and coverage responsibilities as assigned.
  • Assist with execution of corporate planograms, promotional displays, and seasonal sets.
  • Monitor inventory levels to support sales and minimize shrink, out‑of‑stocks, and overstock.
  • Participate in ordering, receiving, counts, and inventory accuracy processes.
  • Follow proper rotation and code‑date procedures.
  • Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and responsive customer service.
  • Assist with resolving customer questions, concerns, and product inquiries.
  • Support a customer‑first culture within the Grocery team.
  • Supervise, coach, and support grocery associates in day‑to‑day activities.
  • Train new associates on department standards, procedures, and safety practices.
  • Communicate expectations clearly and provide feedback to associates.
  • Step in as acting department lead when the Grocery Manager is absent.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and loss prevention practices.
  • Follow safe work practices and help maintain a safe environment for associates and customers.
  • Support shrink control and proper handling of all merchandise.
