Maintains working knowledge of department functions and ensures adequate fresh inventory. Primarily responsible for assisting with maintaining fresh inventory, processing administrative paperwork, and keeping accurate department records.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; maintains professional demeanor with customers and co-workers.
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver items up to approximately 50 lbs. Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, and pulling of loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks.
  • Manual dexterity and strong hand-eye coordination; ability to stand for long periods.
  • Mental alertness required for safe and accurate work. Knowledge of basic math, weights, and measures.
  • Knowledge of product variety, standards, perishability, handling, sanitation, labeling, and department procedures.
  • Operates telephones, pallet jacks, hand trucks, knives, scissors, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines. Uses cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Operates computer software and electronic ordering devices.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays; schedule varies. Good attendance required.
  • Exposure to potential hazards associated with equipment and work aids.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on fast, friendly service.
  • Assists customers by making product suggestions.
  • Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, intercom announcements, and one-on-one interaction.
  • Answers and responds to incoming calls; resolves customer complaints and reports issues to the Store Director as needed.
  • Responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director.
  • Assists with planning daily operations and monitoring production processes following company procedures and profitability goals.
  • Builds grocery displays; rotates and discards outdated or spoiled product. Ensures cleanliness of the work area and department.
  • Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays; assists with coordinating grocery sales promotions.
  • Ensures merchandise is correctly priced, properly displayed, and shelves are clean and well-maintained.
  • Follows and maintains department standards and requirements.
  • Monitors employee productivity.
  • May schedule employees to ensure adequate coverage and service levels.
  • Possesses knowledge of duties performed by all department employees, including Opening/Closing, Dairy, and Frozen.
  • Schedules, supervises, trains, and assigns duties to department employees.
  • Trains employees in store policies, sales procedures, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Maintains working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Ensures proper code dating for all products within the department.
  • Prepares sales and inventory reports; conducts physical inventory every 6 months.
  • Controls inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness; maintains inventory levels per division directives. Stocks and rotates product.
  • Assists with ordering grocery products and maintaining inventory levels per division directives.
  • Supervises reclamation processing and maintains orderly, in-stock conditions in the back room and all grocery areas.
  • Controls shrink and cost.
  • Implements correct product preparation techniques.
  • Operates equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines.
  • Performs receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product. Follows temperature and storage guidelines and proper packaging techniques.
  • Processes administrative paperwork and maintains accurate department records.
  • Accurately completes and monitors daily log sheets, sales and labor reports, and other required paperwork.
  • Ensures proper product temperature levels; complies with retail labeling laws, federal/state regulations, company policies, and code dating requirements.
  • Complies with all workplace safety rules and regulations.
  • Ensures safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of work area, cooler, equipment, and display areas, including code date compliance.
  • Implements emergency procedures for equipment or software malfunctions.
  • Operates computer software and electronic ordering devices to order product.
  • May attend and participate in sales meetings; communicates sales goals, department performance, and opportunities to employees.
  • Complies with company grooming standards and dress code.
  • Performs all duties safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity.
  • Performs other necessary and required duties.
