About The Position

Duties and Responsibilities • Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a strong emphasis on fast, friendly Customer Service. • Assists customers by making product suggestions. • Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, intercom announcements, and one‑on‑one interactions. • Answers and responds to incoming calls professionally; resolves customer complaints and escalates to the Store Director when needed. • Responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director (see Store Director job description). • Assists with planning daily operations and monitoring production processes in accordance with company procedures and profitability expectations. • Builds Grocery displays, rotates stock, and removes outdated or spoiled product. Maintains cleanliness of the work area and department. • Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays; assists in coordinating grocery sales promotions. • Ensures merchandise is correctly priced, properly displayed, and shelves remain clean and well maintained. • Follows and maintains department standards and requirements. • Monitors employee productivity. • May schedule employees to ensure adequate coverage and service levels. • Possesses working knowledge of responsibilities performed by all department staff, including Opening/Closing, Dairy, and Frozen. • Schedules, supervises, trains, and assigns daily duties to department employees. • Trains staff on store policies, sales procedures, and record‑keeping requirements. • Maintains working knowledge of policies and guidelines outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook. • Ensures proper code dating of all products in the department. • Prepares sales and inventory reports; conducts physical inventory every 6 months. • Controls inventory to maintain product quantity, quality, and freshness; stocks and rotates product per division directives. • Assists with ordering Grocery products and maintaining inventory levels per Division guidelines. • Supervises reclamation processes and maintains orderly, in‑stock conditions in the backroom and all Grocery Department areas. • Controls shrink and departmental costs. • Implements proper product preparation techniques. Operates equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines. • Performs receiving duties, including breaking down loads, verifying invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product. Ensures compliance with temperature and storage guidelines. • Processes administrative paperwork and maintains accurate department records. • Completes and monitors daily log sheets, sales and labor documentation, and other required reports. • Ensures proper temperature levels for all products; follows labeling laws, federal and state regulations, company policies, and code‑date standards. • Follows all workplace safety rules and regulations. • Ensures safety, sanitation, and cleanliness of the work area, cooler, equipment, and display areas, including code‑date compliance. • Implements emergency procedures in cases of equipment or computer malfunctions. • Operates computer software and electronic ordering devices to order product. • May participate in sales meetings and communicates sales goals, department results, and opportunities to staff. • Ensures adherence to company grooming standards and dress code. • Performs all duties safely, accurately, honestly, and with integrity. • Performs other necessary and required duties.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a professional demeanor when interacting with customers and coworkers.
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver items up to approximately 50 lbs; frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Performs repetitive arm movements to prepare, package, and display products.
  • Requires manual dexterity and strong eye‑hand coordination.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Requires mental alertness for safe and accurate task completion.
  • Must know basic math, weights, and measures; requires knowledge of product variety, standards, perishability, sanitation, labeling, and department procedures.
  • Operates telephones, pallet jacks, hand trucks, knives, scissors, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines.
  • Uses cleaning supplies, equipment, and computer systems for ordering and reporting.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Reliable attendance is essential.
  • May experience exposure to hazards associated with equipment and tools used in daily tasks.

  • Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans.
  • Sick pay and PTO/Vacation pay are accrued based on hours worked and paid holidays are issued at 7-9 days annually.
