About The Position

The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing daily department operations, ensuring in‑stock conditions, inventory integrity, merchandising standards, and excellent customer service. This role helps lead the department team, maintain compliance with company programs, and drive sales and profitability within the Grocery Department.

Requirements

  • Prior grocery or retail experience preferred, including leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead, train, and motivate a team.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Knowledge of merchandising, ordering systems, and inventory best practices (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Support execution of all department merchandising standards, planograms, schematics, and seasonal sets.
  • Ensure shelves, displays, and backstock areas remain clean, organized, fully rotated, and properly signed.
  • Oversee product freshness, dating, and proper handling to minimize shrink and maintain quality.
  • Help ensure accurate and timely receiving, stocking, and inventory management processes.
  • Assist in reviewing sales trends, movement, and ordering levels to maintain strong in‑stock conditions.
  • Adjust ordering as needed based on promotions, ad sets, and seasonal business.
  • Monitor shrink trends and help develop corrective action plans.
  • Conduct or support regular cycle counts and inventory reviews to maintain accuracy.
  • Provide daily direction, guidance, and coaching to Grocery Department associates.
  • Support scheduling, task delegation, and workload planning.
  • Assist in onboarding and training new associates on department procedures and expectations.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative work environment aligned with company values.
  • Ensure customers receive friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable service.
  • Respond to customer inquiries, locate products, and resolve concerns.
  • Maintain a strong presence on the sales floor to support both customers and associates.
  • Ensure department compliance with food safety, sanitation, and operational policies.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas for associates and customers.
  • Support execution of company programs, audits, and operational checklists.
