Position Summary: The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent plays a critical leadership role in the daily management and long-term success of the club’s golf course(s) and grounds. Under the general supervision of the Director of Grounds and Facilities, Grounds and Building Manager or Lead Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will learn and assist in planning, organizing, and overseeing all functions of Green Bay Country Club, including the course, clubhouses, grounds, and equipment. This is a supervisory position with general accountability for the Club’s top assets and maintenance program.

Requirements

  • Preferably holds or is pursuing a 4-year degree in a related field; a 2-year degree or certificate from an accredited college is also acceptable.
  • Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and be available for occasional off hours or weekend call ins.
  • Must hold, or obtain within 90 days of employment, a Wisconsin Pesticide License.
  • Knowledge of golf course maintenance practices, including landscaping, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and tree care; and familiarity with the tools, materials, and equipment used in these tasks.
  • Ability to supervise staff, including planning, scheduling, assigning, training, evaluating, motivating, and maintaining accurate records and required regulatory reports.
  • Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Basic knowledge of or interest in golf.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and participate in maintenance and operations of GBCC buildings and grounds to include custodial, maintenance, grounds, facility operations and repair projects.
  • Supervise and evaluate the daily work and projects; assists employees in work procedures, standards and safety practices.
  • Communicate matters involving personnel and facilities in a current and timely manner with the Director of Grounds and Facilities.
  • Provide professional leadership including effective deployment of the staff, effective forecasting, planning and analysis, project management and scheduling.
  • Monitor turf health and proactively address disease, pest, and environmental challenges while achieving championship conditions. This is done through but not limited to assisting in the development and management of labor schedules, chemical and fertilizer applications, and equipment usage.
  • Assure compliance with established safety regulations and precautions by all facilities and grounds staff; provide for effective orientation and continuing training to minimize accidents and injuries in state and nationwide compliance.
  • Effectively service the needs of the club through an effective work order system, to include response and coordination of maintenance requests and needs.
  • Perform additional related tasks assigned by leadership including but not limited to irrigation and pool system management, turf and plant care, testing and documentation, property projects, and snow plowing.
