About The Position

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent supports the Superintendent in delivering exceptional playing conditions and daily operational excellence. This position assists in directing all agronomic, personnel, and course maintenance functions and serves as a working leader within the Golf Course Maintenance team. The role requires strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced, high-standard private club environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1–3 years of golf course maintenance experience; prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Florida pesticide applicator license, or the ability to obtain one within a defined timeframe.
  • Working knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, and golf course equipment.
  • Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform sustained physical work in varying weather conditions.
  • Comfortable operating machinery and working on uneven terrain.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and executing all daily maintenance activities, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, chemical applications, and cultural practices.
  • Monitor turf health and proactively identify and address issues related to pests, disease, nutrient deficiencies, moisture management, and soil conditions.
  • Support and execute integrated pest management programs in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers to championship-level standards.
  • Oversee the operation, scheduling, troubleshooting, and repair of the irrigation system.
  • Monitor water usage and contribute to efficient, responsible irrigation practices aligned with agronomic goals and environmental stewardship.
  • Support equipment maintenance planning and ensure proper operation and care of all machinery.
  • Promote a culture of accountability and preventative maintenance to protect club assets.
  • Supervise, train, and develop maintenance staff to ensure quality execution and safe work practices.
  • Assist in preparing daily work assignments, monitoring productivity, and maintaining morale.
  • Model professionalism, urgency, and attention to detail.
  • Assist in planning and executing course improvement projects, including drainage installation, renovations, and landscape enhancements.
  • Coordinate effectively with contractors and vendors to ensure projects are completed on time and to specification.
  • Maintain accurate records of chemical applications, water usage, equipment maintenance, and daily operations.
  • Assist with budgeting, inventory control, and purchasing.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with the Superintendent and other departments to ensure alignment and coordination.
