About the position

Holbrook House is seeking an experienced and service-oriented Assistant General Manager to oversee daily operations in a high-profile restaurant setting in San Francisco's Financial District. This role is crucial for maintaining high service standards, efficiency, and profitability while fostering a welcoming environment for guests. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a passion for hospitality, and the ability to manage a diverse team effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day restaurant operations, including front-of-house and back-of-house activities.
  • Support the General Manager and act as a key resource in their absence.
  • Recruit, train, and manage the restaurant team, ensuring a positive guest experience.
  • Execute private events in designated areas during restaurant operations.
  • Serve as the point-of-contact for all operational information, including food and beverage items and daily specials.
  • Identify and address operational challenges and resolve guest complaints effectively.
  • Assist in managing the restaurant's budget and implementing cost-control measures.
  • Implement ongoing training programs to enhance team skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain high standards of service and hospitality, providing coaching and feedback to team members.
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings and ensure team members are knowledgeable about menu offerings.
  • Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service and fostering a unique dining experience.
  • Manage guest profiles and ensure team awareness of guests in the restaurant.
  • Monitor guest feedback and address issues promptly and professionally.
  • Oversee the reservation system and work with hosts to maximize service opportunities.
  • Assist with the Concierge Program and maintain relationships with industry peers.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager on scheduling, payroll, and compliance with regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2-3 years of high-end restaurant and bar supervisory or management experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong hospitality and service orientation.
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of culinary, high-end wine, beer, and spirits.
  • Professional demeanor and polished appearance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven self-starter with problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and POS systems.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Stamina to work 8-10+ hours a day, standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Current California Manager's food handler certificate and Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification.
