About The Position

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) supports the General Manager in overseeing all plant operations, ensuring alignment with business objectives, financial targets, quality standards, and workforce performance. This role provides cross-functional leadership across the organization to drive operational excellence, continuous improvement, and sustainable growth. The AGM is responsible for executing strategic initiatives, monitoring key performance indicators, optimizing operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with company policies, safety standards, and customer requirements. This position serves as a key decision-maker in the absence of the General Manager and plays a critical role in developing leadership capability throughout the organization. In addition to operational accountability, the Assistant General Manager must lead by example by actively fostering and modeling LM’s 5Cs culture — Care, Commit, Connect, Communicate, and Celebrate. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering, engineering management or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of production and/or engineering experience at a manager level in an automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and present information to customers, suppliers, vendors, management, employees and corporate personnel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem resolution and project management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills; and the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and priorities to meet established and changing deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards and OSHA guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of JIT communication devices and MRP systems; and  Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and direction to the Department Managers including the development and monitoring of goals and objectives for the departments.
  • Assists General Manager with other activities, including budget preparation, business plan activities, new business quoting and other areas, as needed.
  • Monitors and strives to continuously improve production efficiency, first run capability and other key division performance indicators.
  • Ensures all critical launch activities within scope of responsibility are identified, measured and completed on time.
  • Participates in APQP and PDP events, and complete tasks as required.
  • Ensures MSD’s Quality System for TS 16949:2009 directives are in compliance.
  • Ensures all Company policies, procedures, plant standards, and safety rules are consistently adhered to.
  • Supports and enforces the principles of the Employee Charter, Company goals and objectives, and decisions and policies by taking ownership and communicating these in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Works with the UAW to enhance employee moral and addresses employees’ concerns and grievances.
  • Supports and enforces the principles of Company goals and objectives, and decisions and policies by taking ownership and communicating these in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Displays a positive attitude towards safety, works safely and follows all the Company's safety policies and procedures.
  • Complies with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards in accordance with company policies, the Occupational Health & Safety Act. and the Michigan Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Ensures all employees and visitors have a safe environment in that safety and housekeeping standards are maintained; and all hazards, unsafe actions, or unsafe conditions have been identified, corrected, and/or eliminated.
  • Responds to and investigates all reports of injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses and property damage immediately.
  • Takes an active part in the division’s safety program by performing regular workplace inspections, effectively investigates accidents/incidents promptly, and assists in meeting or exceeding the division’s safety goals.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
