About The Position

Otherworld Philadelphia is seeking an experienced, organized, and enthusiastic Assistant General Manager to join our leadership team. This full-time role is a hands-on opportunity to help run one of the most unique immersive entertainment venues in the city – where art, music, and interactive experiences come together. As Assistant General Manager, you will play a key role within Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group’s nationwide portfolio of entertainment assets, including immersive interactive experiences, haunted attractions, festivals, escape rooms, and axe throwing venues. In this role, you will be at the center of operations – driving excellence, innovation, and guest satisfaction across a dynamic facility. You will work closely with the General Manager to ensure seamless day-to-day operations, support a high-performing team, and contribute to the creative and financial success of Otherworld Philadelphia. The Assistant General Manager oversees daily operations at Otherworld, including front-of-house management, staff supervision, and Manager-on-Duty (MOD) coverage. This position ensures operational standards are consistently met while maintaining strong team performance and delivering an exceptional guest experience. The role also manages the Exhibits department, which leads the creative and production work that brings our installations and environments to life. We are seeking a thoughtful, people-focused leader with a passion for operating cutting-edge entertainment experiences. The ideal candidate will have experience managing large-scale venues such as theme parks, museums, or immersive attractions, coordinating with vendors, overseeing creative and facility-related projects, implementing safety and compliance procedures, and leading teams in a fast-paced environment. Success in this role requires confident decision-making, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to staff development – while helping Otherworld Philadelphia and Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group achieve operational, financial, and staffing goals. This position reports directly to the General Manager.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of leadership experience working in an interactive exhibit, theme park, live event, museum, restaurant, haunted house, or gallery environment, with a strong emphasis on facility maintenance and operations.
  • Expert in operations, staff management, guest service, and coordination with third-party vendors, with a hands-on approach.
  • Prior experience in food and beverage operations.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with a thorough understanding of professional business ethics, decorum, and social skills.
  • Highly organized with strong time management and project management skills; able to prioritize tasks effectively and adapt to changing needs.
  • Willingness and availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and late nights.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee front-of-house operations, ensuring the building is consistently show-ready, staffing is properly scheduled and supported, service and quality expectations are clearly set for both staff and guests, and serving as the primary Manager-on-Duty (MOD).
  • Lead retail and food & beverage operations, ensuring strong merchandising, inventory management, product presentation, and service standards while maximizing revenue and enhancing the overall guest experience.
  • Ensure all exhibits, infrastructure, front-of-house, back-of-house, and exterior areas are clean, well-maintained, and present a professional appearance.
  • Carry out MOD responsibilities, including opening and closing the building, operating registers in the box office and gift shop, overseeing front-of-house staff, setting daily priorities, completing MOD checklists, conducting exhibit walk-throughs, completing incident reports, and delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Learn, follow, and uphold all safety, quality, and department-specific policies, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), while maintaining accurate records as required.
  • Collaborate with the management team to plan and support special events, including concerts, private events, seasonal activations, special exhibits, and programming initiatives.
  • Implement and maintain appropriate workplace security protocols, including working closely with security personnel vendors.
  • Submit all internal paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Step in and support wherever needed. Operations is one part of a larger team, and success at Otherworld depends on everyone working together and pitching in when needed.
  • Support the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of front-of-house, Exhibits, and security staff who reflect the company’s values and standards.
  • Train, mentor, and support department supervisors through regular check-ins, project oversight, and ongoing feedback, ensuring team members embody our culture of creativity, collaboration, and exceptional guest service.
  • Oversee the Exhibits department by holding regular check-ins and meetings, guiding project development, ensuring installations and activations stay on schedule, and maintaining high standards of quality and execution.
  • Ensure all team members clearly understand their roles and have the skills, tools, and training necessary to meet performance expectations.
  • Assist in creating and managing staff schedules for daily operations and special events, maintaining schedules at least two weeks in advance.
  • Track employee hours, PTO, and time-off requests; manage supervisor and front-of-house labor within budget; and assist with payroll review to ensure accuracy.
  • Foster a positive, efficient, and professional work environment through strong, supportive leadership.
  • Oversee general staff management, including coaching, performance evaluations, and administering corrective action when necessary.
