About The Position

The Assistant General Manager at Valley Metro is responsible for overseeing operations management, ensuring safety, performance, and customer satisfaction within the transportation environment. This role involves managing frontline employees, implementing operational improvements, and fostering a positive employee culture while maintaining strong client relationships and economic performance.

Requirements

  • 3 years of management experience including profit/loss responsibility.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent training and experience.
  • Experience in emergency planning, incident response, and safety management in a transportation environment.
  • Knowledge of driver scheduling practices and applicable laws regarding transit operations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, fluent in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in union relationship management.
  • Knowledge of financial analysis and reporting in a transportation context.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the department's organizational safety performance.
  • Ensure all relevant statutory and regulatory safety policies are applied and adhered to.
  • Create and maintain a just culture where all employees are treated fairly and justly.
  • Accountable for the planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of passenger service delivery.
  • Lead the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of operations.
  • Ensure timely investigation and follow-up on incidents and performance issues.
  • Monitor, report, and actively improve operational performance metrics.
  • Lead the organization in the General Manager's absence.
  • Implement, monitor, and maintain customer-centric processes.
  • Lead a customer-oriented culture where all drivers think like a passenger.
  • Set the tone of leadership throughout the department through implementation of management principles.
  • Act as liaison between operations and other departments to foster communication.
  • Build the talent pool to ensure future capability to deliver the organizational business plan.
  • Understand and monitor compliance to the ratified CBA and plan CBA negotiations.
  • Drive improvements in employee experience and engagement.
  • Work closely with the GM on budget setting and monitoring economic performance.
  • Deliver financial requirements for account payable, client billing, and payroll.
  • Monitor and manage costs to ensure delivery against the authorized budget.
  • Accountable for the quality of relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Attend client board meetings and report key messages to internal contacts.
